A night of thought in Bangkok: Take a Deep Breath

The Embassy of France in Thailand, Alliance Française (Bangkok), the French Development Research Institute, and UddC jointly organized this event, entitled “Take a Deep Breath: Bangkok's Night of Ideas” on Thursday, February 16, 2020. The goal of the organizers was to raise awareness of creating a sustainable urban environmental in the midst of the climate change crisis.  The event included an exhibition and a discussion forum which raised thought-provoking issues presented by various experts.

The forum was honored by the participation of Dr. Xavier Mari, a biologist and marine scientist from the French Research Institute for Development in Hanoi, Prof. Dr. Siwachaphong Piajan, Director of the Disaster Prevention and Management Research Center, of the National Institute of Development Administration, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kraichat Tantakankanapa, lecturer at the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Khun Warisa Sihiranwong of Greenpeace Southeast Asia and member and project leader of the Right to Clean Air, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Niramon Serisakun, Director of the Urban Design and Development Center.

On this “Bangkok's Night of Ideas,” there was also an exhibition of “Stairway to a Greener Bangkok” to convert the stands of the 3rd floor of the Auditorium of the Alliance Française in Bangkok. This exhibition showed challenges in creating a greener Bangkok and the current status of air pollution. The event also offered potential solutions to the most urgent problems, as well as ideas for increasing green space.  Speakers cited such promising projects as the King Prajadhipok's Sky Park, the Saphan Khiao (Green Bridge) Project and the Yannawa Waterfront Promenade Project in Kadeejeen-Khlongsan neighborhood.
